Trials of the Nether Realm

The seasonal endless exploration mode. Browse the expeditions the community pushed deepest with, and post the one that got you further.

How it works

Seasonal, endless-progression content where you explore the Nether Realm using Cookies designated to match each season's featured Elements. Choose the best node at every crossroads and aim to reach the deepest Zone possible.

Full breakdown — tickets, nodes, Activity, score and rewards

Entry tickets and difficulty

  • Use 1 Trial Ticket to enter, and a set number of Trial Tickets are provided each week.
  • If you run out of Trial Tickets, you can recharge them by spending Crystals or watching an ad. Recharging is also limited to a set number of times per week.
  • Trials of the Nether Realm has two difficulty levels: Easy and Hard.
  • Easy difficulty features relatively easier zones, and you can progress up to Zone 5. No score can be earned on Easy.
  • Hard difficulty offers a limit-pushing challenge that continues into endless Zones. Score can only be earned starting from Hard.

Elements and Expedition Cookies

  • Each season features 3 designated Elements, and you can form your Expedition with Cookies belonging to those Elements.
  • Cookies are selected each season and receive powerful special effects within the Trials of the Nether Realm.
  • The Season Cookie list is based on Cookies who have their Soul Jam, Magic Candy, and Awakening (for Ancient Cookies) upgraded.

Nether Realm Trial Zone

  • When entering the Trials of the Nether Realm, you start from Zone 1. Each Nether Realm Zone contains various nodes you can progress through.
  • Battle / Fierce Battle Nodes: form a team with your selected Expedition Cookies to engage in battle. Regular battles feature standard enemies, while Fierce Battles feature elite enemies. Battle nodes save progress by wave, so even if you fail you can continue from the last saved wave; Fierce Battle nodes save the enemy's remaining HP, so even if you fail you can continue from the last saved HP. Defeating Cookie enemies in Fierce Battles allows you to recruit that Cookie into your Expedition — recruited Cookies do not occupy a slot and are reset at the next expedition.
  • Healing Nodes: Recovery Nodes recover the Activity of your Expedition Cookies. At these nodes you can choose between recovering all Cookies or recovering a single selected Cookie. Cookies whose Activity reached 0 and cannot participate in battle will be able to rejoin battle after recovery.
  • Rift of Oblivion Nodes: one of various outcomes appears at random, including Battle Nodes, Recovery Nodes, Cookie Recruitment, Special Rewards, and more.
  • Boss Nodes: engage in battle with a boss enemy. Boss Nodes save the boss's remaining HP, so even if you fail you can continue from the last saved HP. Boss Nodes are always placed at the end of each Zone, and clearing one lets you advance to the next Zone.

Cookie Activity and score

  • All Expedition Cookies participating in Trials of the Nether Realm have their own Activity value. When a Cookie's Activity reaches 0, that Cookie can no longer join battles. Activity can be restored at Healing nodes.
  • In Trials of the Nether Realm, the Activity of Cookies that participate in battles is reduced. Activity decreases by a base amount when joining a battle, with additional reductions for clearing new Waves or for longer battle durations. However, there is a cap on how much Activity can decrease in a single battle, so it will not drop beyond a certain amount.
  • Labyrinth Score is only recorded on Hard difficulty. Earn Score by advancing deeper into the labyrinth and clearing Battle nodes and Boss nodes.
  • Clearing high-risk nodes, such as Fierce Battle Nodes or Rift Nodes, grants higher scores. No score is earned at Healing nodes.
  • Your final score is based on the score earned during your run, with slight adjustments applied depending on battle duration.

Rewards

  • Zone Clear Reward: earn rewards by clearing the Boss Node of your current Zone. Zone Clear Rewards can only be earned once per season.
  • Breakthrough Reward: earn rewards by clearing nodes with Breakthrough Rewards assigned to them during play. Breakthrough Rewards can also only be earned once.
  • Battle Clear Rewards: earn rewards by clearing Regular or Fierce Battles. These rewards can be earned again when you challenge with the next ticket.
  • Time Jumpers: after playing a specific difficulty in the Trials of the Nether Realm and ending your expedition, you can use Time Jumpers. If multiple records share the same furthest cleared zones, rewards will be based on the most recently cleared Battle Node. Uncleared zones are not included in the rewards, and the amount of rewards may vary depending on the number of Battle Nodes cleared. Using Time Jumpers does not grant score.

About this page

  • The mode is permanent, so its teams stay posted whether or not it is currently being celebrated as an event — and there is nothing to pick before you post one.
  • Each season features a different Element set and its own designated Cookies. A season is a rotation rather than a place to post to, so every expedition lands here together and its own notes say which season it was run in.
  • While the mode is running as an in-game event, teams posted for it also appear on In-Game Events for as long as it runs.

Mode details are transcribed from the in-game overview. Post a team from the Team Builder.
